This wax remains stable and safe at temperatures between 0°C and 5°C. However, if used for hot beverages exceeding 62°C, the wax melts, causing the cup to absorb liquid and deform. The melted paraffin often contains high levels of impurities-specifically polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which are potential carcinogens-that can enter the body and harm health. In contrast, hot drink cups are lined with a special, government-approved polyethylene film that offers excellent heat resistance and remains non-toxic even when exposed to high-temperature beverages. Paper cups should be stored in a well-ventilated, cool, dry, and uncontaminated environment, with a shelf life generally not exceeding two years from the date of manufacture.
