Plastic cups are disposable containers manufactured primarily from materials such as polypropylene (PP) and polycarbonate (PC). They must comply with the *National Food Safety Standard for Plastic Materials and Articles in Contact with Food* (GB 4806.7-2016) and the industry standard *Plastic Drinking Cups* (QB/T 4049-2021); notably, the use of PC material is prohibited in the production of plastic cups for infants and young children. Products are required to display information regarding the material, the production license number, and the "QS" mark; common areas of non-compliance include sealing performance and impact resistance.
Plastic cups are subject to requirements regarding heat and cold resistance; when purchasing, consumers should ensure the cup is free of impurities and odors and does not deform easily. Cups should be cleaned and disinfected before use and washed promptly after holding fruit juice or carbonated beverages; they should be replaced if the surface becomes rough or stained. In regions such as Hainan, administrative penalties are imposed for the use of disposable non-degradable plastic cups made of PP, in accordance with the *Regulations of Hainan Special Economic Zone on Prohibiting Disposable Non-degradable Plastic Products*. Since 2022, the provision of non-degradable plastic cups on domestic flights has been discontinued.
